Shoot It With Film

"These film shots are from a trip to Zadar, a city on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. It is a 3,000 year old city that the Romans conquered first, followed by the Venetians, and there is evidence of this to be found around every corner in the architecture of the city.

Architect Nikola Bašić created the Sea Organ, an architectural object and experimental musical instrument that gives voice to the waves that lap against the city’s seafront.

Alfred Hitchcock is quoted as saying, “Zadar has the most beautiful sunset in the world,” and sitting with a glass of wine listening to the Sea Organ as the sun sets, you can see why."

Good Zine Nice Work

Shot on Kentmere 400 35mm film using my Nikon FM camera, scanned at Gulabi Photo in Glasgow. These photos featured in Issue 1 of Yalla Riso's Good Zine Nice Work. This zine served as a space for artists/designers to submit small works that may not fit within the context of their normal output. It aimed to celebrate doodles, failed ideas, rejected graphics etc. - anything that never sees the light of day.

The first image is of Gylen Castle, a ruined castle at the south end of the Isle of Kerrera in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, on a promontory overlooking the Firth of Lorne. The second image is of Sandhaven Beach, a long sandy beach lined with impressive sand dunes, located just south of the South Pier in South Shields. It was named Britain's very best in Sunday Times Beach of the Year 2022.

Coin-Operated Press

A selection of photos from the first roll of film I ever shot of a rather moody Loch Lomond in 2019. I used expired film and I was experimenting using my Nikon FM for the first time. These photos featured in Coin-Operated Press' Ghost Stories Zine - the 4th edition of the Coin-Operated annual HalloZine.

Lewis and Harris is a single Scottish island in the Outer Hebrides divided by mountains. I visited in September 2022 because I was touring Exodus (a National Theatre of Scotland production) around Scotland after its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I loved being able to capture our tour on film. These photos bring up precious memories for me, and I'm pleased they found a home in the zine.

The first two photos were taken at the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, the third when we visited the Calanais Standing Stones, and the fourth photo is of two dolphins we saw as the ferry left Stornoway to return to Ullapool.
